The club sends its best wishes to past president and club legend Derek Febry who was confined to Southmead Hospital due to a broken hip sustained in a fall prior to Christmas. This resulted in a confinement in hospital over the festive period.Thankfully he is now home and making steady progress, we are looking forward to seeing him at the club in the season ahead, watch some cricket and have a cold one or two with us all. Get well soon and take care Derek – look after yourself See MoreSee Less

The club is saddened to hear of the death of David Carpenter at the age of 86. ‘Carp’ represented Gloucestershire in 117 first class matches from 1954 – 1963 as an opening batsman and, at the time of his passing this week, was the fourth oldest living player to have represented the county. After his retirement from the first-class game, he regularly represented the star-studded Whitbread Wanderers alongside other former county and Test cricketers in friendly benefit fixtures around the country. His association with Chipping Sodbury began in the early 1970s when the club entered the highest level of league cricket available in Bristol.Sodbury stalwarts Derek Febry and Reg Quinlan persuaded ‘Carp’ to once again don his whites and add some experience to the team, which he did along with contributing useful runs, wickets and wily tactical knowledge. He was at his best when he came up against a player who had county cricket aspirations and always tested their ability. In recent times Carp was a frequent and welcome visitor to The Ridings on match days and was always keen to pass on his forthright views as a former county cricketer.
