CSCC is further committed to ensuring that all children (boys and girls under the age of 18) participating in cricket have a safe and positive experience.
This page details the code of conduct that we expect players, parents and visitors to adhere to. There is also a pdf document covering a range of policies specfically aimed at protecting children, including data protection.
Please read this information and share with your children, so that you fully understand what you can expect from the club, and what the club expects from you.
See the Child Welfare PosterAs a member of Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club youth players are expected to abide by the following youth code of conduct:
- All players must play within the rules and respect officials and their decisions.
- Cricket shirts must be tucked in during matches.
- All litter must be put in the bins, not left on the ground for other members of the cricket club to pick up.
- All players must respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
- Players should keep to agreed timings for training and competitions or matches, it is essential that the coach or team manager is informed if they are going to be late or absent.
- Members must wear suitable kit for training and match sessions. From U10 onwards this must include an approved club shirt (other items as agreed with the coach/team manager).
- Members must pay any fees for annual subs or events promptly.
- Youth players are not allowed to smoke on club premises or whilst representing the club.
- Junior members are not allowed to consume alcohol or drugs of any kind on the club premises or whilst representing the club.
- Inappropriate language will not be tolerated whilst representing the club.
- All players must take an active role in playing, watching & supporting throughout matches. Members should not take part in activities such as football, darts & watching TV! Support your team mates and learn from what’s happening on the pitch.
- Appropriate protective equipment (including helmets for Under 18s) must be worn at all times by members who are using training facilities and also those playing in matches.
- Encourage your child to learn the rules and play within them.
- Discourage unfair play and arguing with officials.
- Help your child to recognise good performance, not just results.
- Never force your child to take part in sport.
- Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding good performances of all.
- Never punish or belittle a child for losing or making mistakes.
- Publicly accept the decisions and judgment of officials, team managers, and coaches.
- Support your child’s involvement and help them to enjoy their sport.
- Use correct and proper language at all times.
- Encourage and guide performers to accept responsibility for their own performance and behaviour.
Members and Guests include all members and officers of the Cricket Club and all guests of those members and officers, as well as all individuals who watch / attend / participate / officiate in matches hosted by the club in whatever capacity, including parents. All Members and Guests are asked to:
- Not condone, or allow to go unchallenged, any form of discrimination if witnessed.
- Promote the positive aspects of Cricket (e.g. fair play).
- Report any concerns in relation to a Young Person to the clubs child welfare officer.
- Display high standards of behaviour.
- Treat everyone equally, and not discriminate on the grounds of age, gender, disability, race, ethnic origin, nationality, colour, parental or marital status, religious belief, class or social background, sexual preference or political belief.
- Respect the decisions of match officials, team managers and coaches.
- Actively discourage unfair play, rule violations and arguing with match officials.
- Recognise good performance not just match results.
- Place the well-being and safety of Young People above the development of performance and match results.
- Not provide Young People with alcohol when they are under the care of the Club.
In addition to the above, all Club Officers and Appointed Volunteers will:
- Hold relevant qualifications and be covered by appropriate insurance.
- Always work in an open environment (i.e. avoid private or unobserved situations and encourage an open environment).
- Inform Players and Parents of the requirements of Cricket.
- Know and understand the ECB’s ‘Safe Hands – Cricket’s Policy for Safeguarding Children.
It is very important that the club is informed of any protection issues with any children or vulnerable adults.
From time to time the club may stream matches, probably through YouTube. This will most likely be adult games and will be from a distance. The purpose will be for those not at a match to follow play, and also for the replay of a match, or parts of a match, after it has finished. Any recordings will not be used to question decisions of officials, and will only be used as part of disciplinary proceedings with the agreement of all parties shown in the recording, or relevant section of the recording. If any player or official, that could be included in a streaming or recording, does not wish this to happen then the club must be informed and the streaming will not happen. Any such request will be treated with the utmost discretion.
We may wish to film children for publicity or technical coaching analysis, but will act responsibly in seeking permission and our use of photographic media.
- Photographs / images are not to be taken at matches or training without the prior permission of the Parents/Guardians/Carers of the children. This permission will be documented through the membership form.
- The children should be informed that a person will be taking photographs.
- The children should be informed that if they have concerns they can report these to the coach or team manager.
- Concerns regarding inappropriate or intrusive photography should be reported to the Club Welfare Officer and recorded in the same manner as any other child protection concern.
- Photographs of your child may appear in the local press, Chipping Sodbury CC website, CSCC Social media sites (e.g. Facebook etc) and league handbooks (we try to ensure that names do not appear next to the photos).
- Where possible the club will ask for parental permission to use your child’s image and wherever possible show the image to the parents and child in advance. This ensures that they are aware of the way the image will be used to represent cricket and the Club.
